Since the Mavs are playing strong against Memphis in the first round, I thought I would post an ode to the Mavs. The band is called LAZER. The song is Mavericks Fan For Life, and it is the new anthem of Awesometown. Cuban had a contest for local bands to come up with the new Mavs theme song - this was the best entry and was getting a lot of pub on The Ticket, all the others sucked. These guys are apparently some students at TCU that pretend to be a Kraftwerk-type band from Germany that only wears speedos. Genius if you ask me, the song rocks. Cuban didn't pick it, but said he will play it from time to time during the playoffs.
If anyone out there is looking for a good movie to rent this weekend, I highly suggest Match Point. I watched this movie last night and really enjoyed it... I am not very familiar with Woody Allen films (only seen a couple), but I've been told this is a complete departure from earlier work. It's not a comedy by any means, kind of a Hitchcock type mystery story is I guess what you could call it. Scarlett Johansen is at her finest. Very interesting film. If you are looking for some other films to check out, both movies to the right are also pretty good. Squid and the Whale was directed by Noah Baumbach (writer of Life Aquatic) and produced by Wes Anderson - it def. has the feel of a Wes Anderson movie, you will like it. Guerilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst is very interesting as well...
I don't have a picture of Billy right now, but wanted to also wish him a happy birthday. Apparently Billy will be in Dallas tonight... unfortunately I will be out of town this weekend. Happy Birthday bro.
Man, there have been a lot of birthdays in April... I am pretty sure this is the last one. Happy Birthday to the Cars. Hopefully around 2:30, the office will take a break and bring out a cake from Kroger and everyone will stand around awkwardly and eat it. Grief sure does look happy here... nice shirt Grief.
Every once and a while I will post some ads that I find particularly clever. Here are some pretty sweet ads for Jeep from BBDO Detroit - very smart concept, beautiful art direction.
I hope by now that everyone has gotten into podcasts... if not then you need to figure it out soon. Tons of great content that updates automatically and best of all, it's free. One of the best podcasts out there is KCRW's The Treatment hosted by Elvis Mitchell. It's basically a Charlie Rose style interview show with various writers, directors, and producers. The most recent interview is with Don Cheadle, I'm listening to it now and it's very good. There is a new one every week - but you can also go back and get shows from the past. I would recommend the interviews with David Mamet, Harold Ramis, David Cronenberg, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Fernando Meirelles (director of The Constant Gardener). Podcasts really are amazing, so much free content - I will try some time soon to compile a list of the other podcasts I dig.
Bought this album a week ago and I really like it... Islands are basically what used to be the Unicorns. The music isn't as "all over the place" as the Unicorns' first album which is why they released this album under a different name I think. Check out the sample below. Islands - Rough Gem mp3
Heard about this site on Bob and Dan this afternoon - check it out. Basically, it's a site where people have posted Japanese to English translations that make no sense.... it's good for about ten minutes of amusing perusing. I particularly liked this one, why would someone want their chocolate to smell like beer?, and if so would you consider that charming? Engrish.com
Don't know if everyone has seen this yet - it has been circulating for the past couple weeks... This is just hilarious. Part of me has gotta think this is a hoax, especially the amateur sketch of the Leprechaun. What do you think? At any rate, it's def. funny. Check out the Leprechaun video here.
Sorry about this being a day late - cheers. Blake is officially Google-able, just pulled this head shot off the internet. Also, I found this trailer from a small film that he did in Austin last year - check it out. If you checked this earlier and it didn't work, check it again... I just fixed the link. Cee-Lo + Danger Mouse = The Dance Track of the New Millenia.
Gnarls Barkley is the collaboration of Cee-Lo (Goodie Mobb) and Danger Mouse, their new single is "Crazy". This song is straight up the joint. I highly recommend every single person I know go to the Gnarls Barkley website and download it as soon as possible. Burn it to a disc and play in your car with the windows rolled down tomorrow around 3, you will enjoy it. This album hasn't been released yet - but it is apparently taking the UK by storm as we speak, and once you listen to it - you too will understand the greatness that is Gnarls Barkley (what a great name). Hope everyone has a great weekend - it's a beautiful day in Dallas, hope that keeps up all weekend. Sincerely, Fred Jarvis, Male Prostitute
What a trip! It was kinda last second, but ended up being amazing. Sam, Andy, and myself left the D after work on Thursday and headed Northwest to Purg... We arrived in Colorado on Friday morning and then had three of the best ski days ever. There was an incredible amount of powder (dumped all last week) for April (April... are you kidding me?) And two of the three days it was 45 and sunny... On Saturday it dumped all day as well. Big thanks to Brundage's sister Jenny for offering up here condo for us to stay in while she was out of town... There was definitely tons of antics all weekend, lots of bails by all members of the party. It was definitely kinda funny the first day out... None of us had been on the slopes for a couple of years and we were all kinda delirious from the drive up. We start our descent down the first bumpy Black (used to be no big deal), and it was just ugly... That next chair lift ride up there was a lot of silence. Here a couple candid shots after the first morning on the mountain:Needless to say we all kinda felt defeated at that point... Good news is things got better quick, and by the second day we were back to where we left off. The rest of the trip was amazing - Sunday was the last day of the season, so everyone from Durango was on the mountain partying... too bad we stayed out until 5:00 the night before and didn't get to mountain until 1:30 - unbelievable. It was still a great day of skiing though - here are some more pics of the trip... Sam took the best shot of the trip - Andy and I kicking it in some lawn chairs at the bottom of the mountain.
The music on this site is for sampling purposes only. If you own a file that I have linked to and want it removed, let me know. If you would like me to feature your band, email me at stayclassydallas@gmail.com.
